WOW! Is it February already?! My, the time has just slipped away!
Over this year, I've been working with a lot of students and blogging or rather, online publishing. Our senior students in Environmental Science recently just wrapped up a Challenge Based Learning (CBL) project where they blogged about their process. This is very similar to the same project we do with our 7th grade students.
Last year, we had our students publishing using Blogger. Now, there is absolutely nothing wrong with Blogger. I just didn't like it too much; not for myself, not for the back end management of 89 students, and not for my students. So this year, we had our students begin using Weebly. Our 12th graders really enjoyed it! Our middle school students currently use Weebly for their portfolios and our photography students as well, so it just seemed like the right transition. I'm looking forward to our 7th graders using the platform for their CBL project on Non-Infectous Diseases... kicking off NEXT WEEK! AAAAHHH...
Sidenote: In the Blogger vs Weebly blog platform argument, I've been finding that many of the security features that Blogger offered, were also available with Weebly. I also found Weebly to be MORE user-friendly and cleaner in the aesthetic department. Earlier this year, a colleague and I presented at the CUE Tech Fair in San Diego and Los Angeles on the benefits of student publishing and how to start. Therefore, I feel like I've spent some time with it.... but we'll see. Maybe I'll change my mind.
What platform do you have your students use when publishing on the web? Are you having them publish to the web? Why or why not?
