Books I've been reading...
Sometimes, when I say "read", I mean "listen" because I listen to a lot of audiobooks thanks to a lengthy commute. With that said, I still do read and enjoy physical, hard copy, and bound books. I'll try to note which format I explored and how it translated.... and now, on with the show!
Originals: How Non-Conformists Move the World
By Adam Grant
A really wonderful collection of "out of the box" idea success stories. Beginning with the tale about Warby Parker, Adam Grant goes on to outline how not following the status quo, the popular opinion, or default can lead to some of the biggest and more progressive ideas and products. In all, I enjoyed this book, but I felt like you could get the gist of it in the first few chapters and his TED talk.
I had three big take aways from Originals:
Personally, I like to have a full understanding and see others' experiences. Take the new Apple School Manager and managed IDs for instance. Some wanted to jump right in while on a tight timeline; I, on the other hand, wanted to just do it the way we have in the past because of the short time and newness of the environment (released earlier that day) and hear the feedback and experiences of others who have similar environments. Basically, letting others work out the kinks ;)
In this same vein is generate group brainstorming ideas separately and then come back together some time later and share. Your group will have more ideas and everyone's voice will be heard (which is the most important).
